Ukraine has lost yet another defender. Ihor Khodzhaniyazov, a musician, musicologist, and researcher of traditional music, was killed while on a combat mission. His wife, Olena Shikura, announced his death on Facebook. According to her, Igor died on June 28, Ukraine’s Constitution Day. The cause of death was a direct hit from a guided aerial bomb.

It is especially heartbreaking that the tragedy occurred just one day before the first birthday of their youngest son, Gordii. Three children were left without a father. “On Ukraine’s Constitution Day. One day before the first birthday of our youngest son, Gordii. I will now mourn and raise our three sons,” wrote Olena Shikura.

His wife recalls that they had been together for nearly 13 years and that this time had been a true blessing for her. “I was happy with you every single day of the nearly 13 years we spent together. Thank you, fate, for this priceless gift. We accomplished so much together—and yet so little at the same time,” she wrote.

According to Olena Shikura, Igor was a man who was genuinely passionate about his work, deeply knowledgeable on various topics, and an inspiration to those around him. “You, too, could have accomplished so much more that was truly useful and remarkable in the various fields you were passionate about and in which you excelled, inspiring many,” his wife added. Ihor Khodzhaniyazov was known as a musician and researcher of Ukrainian traditional music. After the full-scale war began, he stood up to defend Ukraine.
The defender will be buried in the village of Zarvantsi in the Vinnytsia region on the Alley of Defenders of Ukraine. The family promised to announce the date and time of the funeral ceremony in the near future. His wife, Olena Shikura, shared this information on Facebook.
