“The most difficult situation after Russia’s massive strike is currently in Kyiv,” – Zelenskyy

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy reported the first assessments of the consequences of Russia’s massive strike across the regions. According to him, damage has been recorded in Kyiv and Kyiv region, Vinnytsia, Dnipro region, Odesa, Zaporizhzhia, Poltava, Sumy, and other regions.

The president shared this information on his Telegram channel.

“Repair crews, the State Emergency Service of Ukraine, and all necessary forces are engaged everywhere,” he stated.

Zelenskyy emphasised that during the attack, Russia used a significant number of ballistic and cruise missiles, as well as more than 300 strike drones. Ukrainian air defence forces successfully engaged a substantial number of targets.

“Just one day before this strike, we finally received the missiles we needed, and that made a real difference. Every support package matters. Missiles for the Patriots, for NASAMS, and for other air defence systems are critically necessary,” the president highlighted.

He added that equipping Ukraine with air defence systems is a direct responsibility of the diplomatic system.

“The direct task of our entire diplomatic system is to work so that Ukraine has enough air defence capabilities. Partners must not fail us on this—missiles for air defence are real protection for people’s lives,” Zelenskyy stressed.

The president also noted that a special energy-sector meeting will determine all details regarding the strike’s consequences and the resources required to restore electricity, heating, and water supply.

“The most difficult situation is currently in Kyiv, with a significant number of residential buildings without heating,” he said.

Zelenskyy called on the international community not to remain silent about Russia’s crimes.

“It is important that the world does not remain silent about this. Russia cannot be treated equally with other countries while it is focused only on killing and tormenting people,” he stated.

He also addressed Ukrainian officials, urging them to be on-site and work directly with local communities.

“Now all Ukrainian officials—everyone responsible for the work of state institutions, regional and local authorities, Ukrainian energy companies—must be in Ukraine, working, helping people, and trying to stabilise the situation. You need to be in your country, in your cities, with your communities. Glory to Ukraine!” the president concluded.

It is worth recalling that during the night of 20 January, the Russian army again carried out a large-scale combined strike on Ukraine, using ballistic missiles and strike drones.

Russia’s attack also damaged 12 houses in Zaporizhzhia and targeted Kharkiv with ballistic missiles.
