An occupier was electrocuted by an FPV drone's battery while trying to keep warm
A Russian soldier on one of the front lines died after a failed attempt to warm himself by a fire, which he had started using a battery from a destroyed FPV drone.
Footage of the incident was released by aerial reconnaissance units of the Ukrainian Armed Forces’ 63rd Separate Mechanized Brigade in the latest episode of the documentary series “Drone Diary.”
Ukrainian soldiers ironically dubbed the occupier the “likely winner of the 2026 Darwin Award.”
According to the soldiers, the incident occurred back in May, when the weather on the front lines was still cool, prompting the Russian soldier to start a fire to warm up.
However, instead of regular firewood, he used a lithium battery from a damaged FPV drone. This decision proved fatal, as the battery exploded upon contact with the fire.
“Winner of the 2026 Darwin Award! The occupier thought he had come up with a good way to stay warm, but instead invented the most original method of suicide," noted Ukrainian military personnel, commenting on the released footage.
The 63rd Mechanized Brigade emphasized that the use of damaged batteries, especially lithium ones, poses a serious danger due to the risk of fire and detonation. This is likely what caused the fatal incident.
“Of course, it exploded. And the occupier died a long, agonizing death,” Ukrainian defenders said.
