Occupiers destroyed a 19th-century church in the Sumy region
Russian occupation forces completely destroyed the Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary, located in the village of Yunakivka in the Sumy region. This unique religious structure was built back in 1806.
The construction of this magnificent church took 13 years. The historic landmark managed to survive the destruction of World War II, and restoration work continued on the building for a long time.
Until the start of the Russian Federation’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, the religious community held services in the basement of the building, which was called the winter church. Starting in 2022, the Russian army repeatedly and deliberately shelled the Ukrainian shrine, which ultimately led to its complete destruction.
This is reported by the local publication Kordon.Media.
