A unit of the Main Intelligence Directorate destroyed reconnaissance drones at an airfield in Crimea – video

Operators from the “Kabul 9” special operations unit of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ukrainian Ministry of Defense destroyed two high-value Russian “Orion” strike and reconnaissance drones. The rare enemy drones were located at the airport in the temporarily occupied city of Kerch, where the invaders had established a base for them. 

Video footage of the combat operation, which took place on July 2, was released by the agency’s press service.

The “Orion” UAV was developed by the Russian group of companies JSC “Kronstadt” and belongs to the class of heavy drones weighing about one metric ton. The drone is capable of staying airborne for up to 30 hours with a range of 250–300 kilometers. This system serves as a platform for guided aerial bombs, as well as X-50, X-UAV, and “Banderol” missiles. The estimated value of the two aircraft destroyed by military reconnaissance units is over $10 million.

On the night of July 6, Deep Strike units of the Special Operations Forces carried out strikes on an oil tanker and an oil terminal in Kerch, which Russia uses to support its fuel logistics. 

As a reminder, the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) carried out strikes on oil refineries and military facilities in Russia and Crimea.
