Crimean police have documented war crimes committed by a Russian special operations commander
On May 27, law enforcement officials reported that they were gathering evidence regarding war crimes committed by the commander of a Russian sabotage unit. According to the investigation, he led a sabotage and reconnaissance group as part of Russian forces at the start of the full-scale invasion in 2022. The suspect faces life imprisonment.
This was reported by the National Police.
During the occupation of the Vyshhorod district in the Kyiv region, the suspect and his subordinates subjected local residents to torture and psychological pressure.
In particular, in early March 2022, in the village of Fedorivka, the occupiers found a man who was hiding from shelling, forced him to undress, tied his hands, and took him to the forest. There, they demanded information from the victim about the location of Ukrainian troops. When the man refused, they tied him to a tree, placed an unpinned hand grenade behind his back, and forced him to stand for hours under the threat of death. Subsequently, they brutally beat him for a long time and held him in an earthen pit in sub-zero temperatures without food.
In addition, there is documented evidence of the unlawful detention of a local woman in the town of Ivankiv, whom the invaders held for several days in a van in the forest. During the interrogation, the unit commander personally demanded information from the woman about the location of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and forced her to participate in a staged propaganda interview. To intimidate the victim, the perpetrator, posing as a high-ranking officer of a private military company, pretended to strike her with a chair and threatened her with physical violence.
Under the procedural guidance of the Kyiv Regional Prosecutor’s Office, he was notified of the charges against him in absentia.
