Poland’s Military Gendarmerie has launched an official investigation into the crash of an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) on the территории of a military installation.

The Polish Military Gendarmerie reported this on the social media platform X.

The incident occurred on 6 February in the area where the 1st Air Cavalry Battalion is stationed, in the town of Leznica Wielka, Łódź Voivodeship.

According to preliminary information, a UAV of unknown origin crashed directly onto the territory of the military unit.

Law enforcement officials emphasised that no one was injured, and no damage was caused to military infrastructure.

“The Military Gendarmerie unit in Łódź is investigating an incident involving a small UAV that crashed on 6 February onto the territory of the 1st Air Cavalry Battalion in Leźnica Wielka, causing no damage. Investigative activities are currently ongoing at the scene,” the statement said.

Military law enforcement authorities also issued a separate warning to the public regarding strict liability for such actions.

Under current Polish aviation law, any flights over military facilities and restricted areas are strictly prohibited and are classified as a criminal offence.

Earlier, Russian forces reportedly used the ‘Gerbera’ UAV for the first time as a platform for an FPV drone.

Ukraine has also developed a ground-based robotic carrier for FPV drones.
