The Air Force explained why the Odesa region remains one of the main targets of enemy attacks
Russia has intensified its combined strikes on the Odesa region, using aircraft, missiles, and drones. Yuriy Ignat, head of the Communications Department of the Ukrainian Air Force, explained on the “Ranok.LIVE” program that the region is a strategic target for the enemy due to its extensive coastline, its borders with Romania and Moldova, and its crucial importance for Ukraine’s maritime logistics and economy.
Key details regarding Russian weapons and tactics:
For attacks from occupied Crimea, they are using X-59 missiles, X-31P, “Onyx,” X-22 missiles, and Shahed drones, as well as, increasingly, “Gerbera” drones and “Banderol” loitering munitions.
The “Banderol” loitering munition is a hybrid of a drone and a missile with a speed of about 600 km/h. Its flight characteristics are similar to those of a cruise missile, so appropriate air defense systems are used to destroy it.
Most often, “Banderol” is launched from Russian “Orion” UAVs, which patrol the Black Sea and attack the Odesa and Mykolaiv regions.

On the afternoon of July 20, Russian forces struck Odesa. According to preliminary reports, infrastructure facilities were hit.
A 48-year-old woman was injured when a Russian drone struck in Ochakiv; she was hospitalized by medical personnel. The attack damaged a non-residential building and caused a fire in a two-story building and a passenger car.
