Ukraine's air defense forces destroyed more than 4,600 missiles and drones in August

In August 2026, Ukrainian air defense forces shot down more than 4,600 missiles and drones during massive attacks by the Russian Federation.

Among the targets destroyed were 3,326 Shahed attack UAVs, 1,031 reconnaissance drones, 820 “Lancets,” 101 S8000 “Banderole,” as well as 25 Kh-101 missiles, 21 Kh-59/69 missiles, 8 “Iskander-M/KN-23” missiles, 8 “Kalibr” missiles, 5 “Onyx” missiles, and 4 “Iskander-K” missiles.

Separately, the Ukrainian military neutralized more than 50,000 tactical-level UAVs over the course of the month.

Jet-powered drones have become a new challenge for air defense forces. During some massive attacks, they accounted for nearly half of the long-range drones launched by Russia.

The Ministry of Defense notes that additional weaponry is needed to combat such high-speed targets—aircraft equipped with “air-to-air” missiles, aircraft cannons, and ground-based anti-aircraft systems.

As a reminder, on August 28, four people were injured in Zaporizhzhia as a result of a Russian drone attack on a construction supply store. A massive fire broke out on the premises after the strike.

On the night of August 27, following a Russian attack in Boryspil, Kyiv Oblast, large-scale fires broke out at warehouse facilities.
