Air defence shoots down 105 enemy drones during overnight attack
On the night of 23 February, Russian occupation forces carried out a large-scale attack on Ukraine, deploying 126 strike drones of various types as well as an Iskander-M ballistic missile. This was reported on Telegram by the Ukrainian Air Force.
Air defence forces managed to eliminate the majority of the enemy targets, preventing large-scale destruction in many regions of the country.
The enemy attacked Ukrainian cities from six different directions, attempting to overload the air defence system with combined strikes. In addition to the usual Shahed-type drones — around 80 of which were recorded — the attackers also launched Gerbera and Italmass drones.
The air assault was repelled by anti-aircraft missile units, mobile fire groups, aviation, as well as electronic warfare and unmanned systems units. Thanks to the coordinated efforts of Ukraine’s defenders, as of 08:00 a total of 105 enemy UAVs had been shot down or suppressed.
Despite the effective work of the air defenders, one ballistic missile and 20 strike drones hit 11 different locations in the northern, southern and eastern regions. The fall of debris from downed drones was also recorded, causing localised property damage.
“The attack is ongoing, and several enemy UAVs remain in the airspace. Follow safety rules,” representatives of the command stressed in the morning, urging citizens not to ignore air raid alerts.
Earlier, Russia attacked the Odesa region with drones, causing injuries and significant destruction. Russia also carried out a large-scale missile and drone attack on Kyiv, leaving casualties.
