Border Guard identifies areas where the enemy is preparing “surprises”

Russian occupying forces continue to actively send sabotage and reconnaissance groups (SRGs) into Ukrainian territory, attempting to find gaps in defensive positions.

Currently, the main activity of enemy units is concentrated along sections of the state border within Sumy and Kharkiv regions.

According to the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine (SBGSU), the occupiers use a tactic of constant provocations to locate Ukrainian defenders’ firing points. While the overall number of detected SRGs has slightly decreased compared to last year, the threat remains high due to changes in the enemy’s approach.

“The enemy does not stop trying to carry out attacks in zones where fighting is already ongoing or was previously conducted, or to expand their control by probing our defenses at various points,” said Andriy Demchenko, spokesperson for the SBGSU.

The occupiers have changed their strategy: earlier in the year they acted in small mobile groups, but now they increasingly attempt to deploy larger forces to break through. In particular, the enemy uses infantry as a “living instrument” for reconnaissance by combat, sending individual soldiers on near-suicidal missions.

“Currently, the main attempts involve infantry groups… or individual Russian soldiers, who are sent to locate our positions so that these can then be targeted with more powerful weapons,” Andriy Demchenko explained regarding enemy tactics.

Once lone soldiers identify Ukrainian positions, the occupiers use heavy artillery or gather reserves for a massive assault. This method allows the aggressor to conserve armored vehicles but results in huge casualties among enemy personnel.
