The UN Security Council will convene a meeting on Russia's aggression on Ukraine's Independence Day
Tomorrow, August 24, on Ukraine’s Independence Day, the UN Security Council will convene to discuss the situation regarding the continuation of Russia’s war against our country.
Five European members of the Security Council—Denmark, France, Greece, Latvia, and the United Kingdom—
initiated the discussion on this issue.
Danish Foreign Minister Lars Løkke Rasmussen, whose country holds the Security Council presidency in August, is expected to chair the meeting.
The UN’s Deputy Secretaries-General for Political and Humanitarian Affairs, Rosemary DiCarlo and Tom Fletcher, will serve as speakers.
The meeting will begin at 3:00 p.m. Eastern Time (10:00 p.m. Kyiv time).
As a reminder, while visiting Ukraine on August 23, Finnish President Alexander Stubb stated that our country is seeking pragmatic solutions to end the war, but Russia is blocking the negotiation process.
On August 23, the Russian terrorist army carried out airstrikes on a Mondelez International factory in Trostyanets, Sumy Oblast. This is already the third attack on a facility belonging to this American company this year.
On August 23, the Russian military attacked a railway station in the Kharkiv region with a drone while a passenger train carrying evacuees was stopped. Two women were killed in the strike, and five other people were injured.
