The SBU has charged Gerasimov with a massive attack on Kyiv
The Security Service of Ukraine and the Office of the Prosecutor General have charged Valery Gerasimov, Chief of the General Staff of the Russian Armed Forces, in absentia.
According to the investigation, he personally directed one of the largest-scale strikes on Kyiv in the summer of 2026.
The investigation established that the attack took place on the night of July 2. At that time, Russian forces deployed 570 aerial weapons against the capital, including strike drones, ballistic and hypersonic missiles, specifically the “Zircon” and “Iskander-M.”
As a result of the massive attack, more than 100 people were injured, 70 of whom were hospitalized. More than 20 residential buildings in various districts of Kyiv were also damaged.
According to the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU), since the start of the full-scale invasion, Gerasimov has been issuing orders to carry out combined missile and airstrikes on Ukraine’s civilian infrastructure.
Based on the evidence gathered, the Russian general was notified in absentia of his status as a suspect under Part 2 of Article 438 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine—for committing war crimes that resulted in the loss of human life.

Earlier, a female General Staff officer was detained for accepting a bribe of $14,000.
In the Chernihiv region, a detained deserter attempted to offer a bribe of 40,000 hryvnias.
