Nauseda warned of possible Russian attacks on Baltic infrastructure
Lithuanian President Gitanas Nausėda does not rule out the possibility that Russia could carry out “false flag” operations against the critical infrastructure of the Baltic states. According to him, such actions could be part of potential provocations by the Russian Federation.
“Our intelligence data shows that we must remain vigilant, as there is a risk of ‘false flag’ operations in the future. And the primary target is critical infrastructure. Because the independence of our energy sector is extremely important to us,” said Nausėda.
He noted that in recent years, many projects have been implemented that are vital to the resilience of Lithuania’s energy sector, such as the LNG terminal in Klaipėda, the harmonization and integration of the power grid into the continental European network, and others. It is very important for the country to maintain the stability of electricity production and supply, so several important measures have been taken to strengthen the protection of critical infrastructure facilities.
Nausėda pointed out that Lithuania shares a 680-kilometer border with Belarus, a 120-kilometer border with the Kaliningrad Oblast, and a very long border with adversaries.
“The likelihood that something could happen—hybrid activities, illegal migration, kinetic operations against us—is indeed very high,” he reiterated.
At the same time, he said, one of the main challenges is air defense. The country is working to build the necessary capabilities: detection, interception, and destruction of drones or other unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs). In this context, cooperation and the exchange of experience with Ukrainians are very important, the Lithuanian president emphasized.

Spain has stepped up security in the North African enclave of Ceuta following a mass border breach by migrants from Morocco. According to local authorities, thousands of people illegally crossed the border by sea and land, causing temporary shelters to become overcrowded.
