Russia has stepped up its recruitment of Botswana citizens to fight in the war against Ukraine — Bloomberg
The Botswana government has reported a sharp increase in the number of cases involving the recruitment of Botswana citizens to participate in Russia’s war against Ukraine. This was reported by the Botswana Ministry of International Relations.
The ministry noted that citizens are increasingly being misled by false offers of work abroad. Once they leave the country, according to the ministry, they are forced to participate in combat operations on Russia’s side.
The Botswana Ministry of Foreign Affairs emphasized that the number of such cases is rising at an “alarming rate.” The ministry also reported receiving messages from citizens who are already on the front lines and describing dangerous conditions.
The government has urged the country’s residents to carefully verify job offers abroad and not to accept questionable positions.
According to the nonprofit organization Inpact, which runs the All Eyes On Wagner program, as of February, at least 316 Africans had been killed in battles against Ukraine. The organization notes that many of them lacked adequate military training.
