Russia is preparing provocations involving Polish symbols in Ukraine – Center for Political Analysis
Russia may be planning provocations involving Polish symbols on Ukrainian territory in order to heighten tensions between Kyiv and Warsaw. According to the Center for Countering Disinformation, such actions may be timed to coincide with the Conference on the Reconstruction of Ukraine in Gdańsk.
According to the Center for Countering Disinformation (CCD), the Main Intelligence Directorate of the General Staff of the Russian Armed Forces (GRU) has been tasked with organizing provocations involving Polish symbols. The Russians plan to carry them out directly on Ukrainian territory. The timing is no coincidence: the actions are being prepared specifically for June 25–26, when the Ukraine Recovery Conference (URC-2026) is taking place in Gdańsk.
The Center for Political and Military Analysis (CPMA) emphasizes that the Kremlin’s main goal is political destabilization, escalating tensions, and driving a wedge between Poland and Ukraine. The specific scenario for the provocations has not yet been disclosed.
The CPD is documenting these provocations against the backdrop of a protracted crisis in relations between Kyiv and Warsaw: in late May, Polish President Karol Nawrocki stripped Volodymyr Zelenskyy of the Order of the White Eagle due to a decree granting a unit of the Armed Forces of Ukraine the honorary title “Heroes of the UPA.” In response, Foreign Minister Andriy Sibiga, Head of the President’s Office Kyrylo Budanov, and former Ukrainian Presidents Leonid Kuchma, Viktor Yushchenko, and Petro Poroshenko returned their Polish awards. Zelenskyy ultimately declined to attend the conference in Gdańsk—Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko will lead the delegation. Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk acknowledged that anti-Ukrainian sentiments have found resonance among some Poles, but promised not to fuel tensions, according to the Center for Public Diplomacy.
