Russia launched a massive attack on Odesa and the surrounding region with missiles and KAB bombs; there is damage
On the night of September 1, Russia launched a massive attack on Odesa and the Odesa region. The enemy used loitering munitions, conventional and rocket-powered drones, as well as other high-speed targets.
As a result of the attack, infrastructure in Odesa was damaged; however, according to preliminary reports, there were no fatalities or injuries.
The Ukrainian Air Force warned of high-speed targets, conventional drones, and jet-powered drones moving toward the Odesa region. Residents were urged to remain in shelters.
Explosions were heard repeatedly in Odesa overnight. According to monitoring sources, a significant number of aerial targets were detected heading toward the city.
These included “Banderole” loitering munitions, missiles, KABs, and drones. There were also reports of a high-speed target moving toward Chornomorsk and Odesa from the direction of the Black Sea.
Andriy Kovalenko, head of the Center for Countering Disinformation, stated that Russia is attacking civilian targets in Odesa and identified energy infrastructure as one of the enemy’s priority targets.
Separately, a Russian attack damaged border infrastructure in the Izmail district.
Due to the shelling, the “Orlivka” international border crossing on the border with Romania has temporarily suspended operations.
The Izmail District State Administration reported:
“On the night of September 1, the enemy carried out an airstrike on border infrastructure in the Izmail district. Due to the attack, the Orlivka border crossing has temporarily suspended operations.”
The Romanian side has been informed of the situation, and traffic is to be rerouted through other border crossing points.
The Ukrainian Air Force has reported the attack.
Russia regularly launches massive strikes on the Odesa region.
On August 27, the region came under a prolonged attack, which damaged a high-rise building and an educational institution.
Another massive missile and drone attack took place on August 24. At that time, the main targets were warehouses and energy infrastructure, and hits were also recorded at two “Epicenter” hypermarkets in Odesa.
The new attack marked yet another large-scale strike by Russia on civilian and energy infrastructure in the Odesa region.
Over the past 24 hours, on August 31, Russian troops carried out 981 strikes on 57 settlements in the Zaporizhzhia region. Two people were killed and eight others were wounded as a result of the enemy attacks.
Earlier, Russia attacked a facility in Novhorod-Siverskyi.
As a reminder, a massive attack on the Kyiv region has left one person dead and eight wounded.
Russia also launched a massive missile attack on Kyiv overnight, resulting in fatalities.
