Russian Defense Minister Andrei Belousov awarded the commander of the corvette *Soobrazitelny*, who on September 14 fired two signal flares at a Danish military helicopter in international waters of the Baltic Sea.

According to the Russian Ministry of Defense, the commander received the “For Combat Merit” medal for his alleged “skillful and decisive actions” in preventing a provocation by the Danish helicopter.

The Russian ministry stated that the corvette was in the southwestern part of the Baltic Sea near Gedser. The crew reportedly spotted a Danish Air Force Fennec helicopter approaching the ship and failing to respond to calls on the international communication channel.

Following this, the ship’s commander decided to launch two red signal flares. The Russian Ministry of Defense claims that the Danish helicopter subsequently left the area where the Russian ship was located.
