Russia has again attacked the Kherson Thermal Power Plant; critical damage has been reported
On the night of August 27, Russian forces launched a second attack on the Naftogaz Group’s Kherson Thermal Power Plant. The plant sustained critical damage as a result of the strike.
According to the company, four guided aerial bombs (GABs) struck the Kherson Thermal Power Plant simultaneously.
As a result of the attack, all heat-generating and power-generating equipment remaining at the plant was completely destroyed and rendered inoperable.
Serhiy Fedorenko, acting chairman of the Naftogaz board, emphasized that the Kherson Thermal Power Plant is an exclusively civilian facility that provides heat to a significant portion of the city’s residential buildings.
“The Russians struck an exclusively civilian facility that provides heat to a significant portion of Kherson’s residential buildings. This attack makes no military sense whatsoever. Its sole purpose is to terrorize the civilian population and deprive tens of thousands of Kherson residents of their heat source on the eve of the heating season,” Fedorenko emphasized.
The second strike on the Kherson Thermal Power Plant effectively destroyed the equipment necessary for producing heat and electricity, creating additional challenges for Kherson’s preparations for the heating season.

This morning, Russian troops attacked the Kherson Thermal Power Plant—the city’s main source of heat—with a guided aerial bomb, causing severe damage. Naftogaz noted that experts will be able to assess the full extent of the damage once the security situation stabilizes.
Naftogaz emphasized that the Kherson CHP is exclusively a civilian facility, whose primary purpose is to supply heat to the city’s residents. At the same time, the CHP has suffered dozens of Russian attacks throughout 2026.
Over the past 24 hours, on August 25, Russian troops attacked Kharkiv and 17 other settlements in the region with missiles and drones, injuring 23 people, including two girls. The highest number of casualties was in Izyum, where 14 people were injured, including children aged 11 and 16.
On the morning of August 26, Russian troops carried out an airstrike on Sloviansk in the Donetsk region; explosions were heard in the central part of the city. According to preliminary reports, the occupiers may have used guided bombs; information on casualties is being verified.
In the Chernihiv region and in Slavutych, 30,000 customers were left without power following an attack by the Russian Federation.
As a reminder, on August 23, Russian forces attacked a train station in the Kharkiv region with a drone while a passenger train evacuating people was stopped. Two women were killed in the strike, and five others were injured.
On August 23, Russian terrorist forces attacked Ukraine’s railway infrastructure five times. One person was killed and four others were injured as a result of the strikes.
On August 23, Russian forces attacked the locomotive of passenger train No. 147, traveling from Zhytomyr to Odesa, with a jet-powered drone. The train was stopped and passengers evacuated before the strike, so neither passengers nor railway workers were harmed.
