Russia continues to launch assaults with small groups in the Kharkiv and Sumy regions — State Border Guard Service of Ukraine
As of July 31, Russian troops continue to attempt to advance along the border areas of the Kharkiv and Sumy regions. According to Andriy Demchenko, spokesperson for the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine, the occupiers are carrying out attacks primarily in small groups, attempting to improve their positions.
“Within the Kharkiv region, there has been a slight decrease recently in attempts at direct assaults on positions held by border units in the Vovchansk direction. However, there are still periodic attempts by enemy infantry groups to attack our positions. Within the Sumy region, specifically in the Shostka district, in the direction of the Esman community, the enemy also periodically deploys its infantry to attack our positions. But this is more of a probing effort to see if the enemy can expand its zone of control along the state border. Instead, these groups were eliminated by border guard units both within the Kharkiv region and within the Sumy region,” Demchenko said.
According to him, the enemy is attempting to expand its zone of control within the Vilkhuvatska community in the Kharkiv region by resorting to assault operations, but is suffering casualties. The occupiers have not managed to achieve significant results in expanding their zone of control.
Demchenko noted that the enemy primarily operates in infantry groups, occasionally using light vehicles such as ATVs and motorcycles, particularly in the Southern Slobozhanshchyna direction. Sometimes enemy infantry groups are transported to the border by armored vehicles.
Earlier reports indicated that following Russian attacks on the Kharkiv–Poltava highway, not a single gas station remained operational.
As a reminder, Russian drones attacked the Chernihiv region, damaging a gas station and a resort.
The WOG gas station chain in Kyiv and the Kyiv region will temporarily suspend nighttime operations due to the increased risk of enemy shelling.
