In July, the Russian Armed Forces suffered their highest losses on the front lines since the beginning of the year, according to the General Staff

In July 2026, the Russian army suffered its heaviest casualties since the beginning of the year. According to the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the Ukrainian Defense Forces eliminated 42,860 Russian soldiers that month.

This figure represents the highest monthly level of personnel losses among the occupying forces in 2026.

According to the General Staff, Russian personnel losses by month were as follows:

  • January – 31,710 soldiers;
  • February – 26,090;
  • March – 31,960;
  • April – 32,980;
  • May – 33,760;
  • June – 39,290;
  • July42,860.

Thus, during the first seven months of 2026, the Russian army lost 238,650 service members.

The General Staff emphasized that the Ukrainian Defense Forces continue to systematically eliminate enemy personnel and reduce its combat potential.

The day before, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that since the start of the full-scale invasion, the Russian army’s total losses have reached approximately 1.6 million soldiers.

According to the head of state, approximately 700,000 Russian occupiers have been killed.

At the same time, when asked about the losses of the Ukrainian Defense Forces, Zelenskyy noted that he cannot disclose all the data for security reasons, as such information could help Russia assess the state of the Ukrainian army.

The president reported that over the four years of the war, Ukraine has lost about 50,000 military personnel killed in action.
