Russia will expand drone production in Tatarstan to more than 1,000 units per month, according to Bild
Russia is rapidly expanding the “Alabuga Polytech” production complex in Tatarstan, where “Geran”-type attack drones are manufactured. This is Russia’s largest facility for producing such drones, which Moscow regularly uses to carry out attacks on Ukraine.
According to BILD, satellite images show that the complex is rapidly expanding.
New production sites, warehouses, and transportation infrastructure already cover more than 1,000 hectares.
The expansion of the Alabuga complex is linked to the Kremlin’s plans to ramp up production of attack drones.
According to estimates by the U.S.-based Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS), Russian production exceeded 5,500 drones per month in March.
At the same time, according to Ukrainian military intelligence, Russia planned to increase production of various “Geranium” models to 11,000 units in August.
Such a scale of production requires a significant number of workers. According to BILD, even minors are being enlisted to assemble drones at the “Alabuga” facility.
As production expands, Russia is strengthening the complex’s defenses against Ukrainian drone attacks.
Two rings of towers are being built around the main production areas. An analysis of satellite imagery conducted by the Institute for Science and International Security (ISIS) indicates that metal mesh may be installed between these structures.
These structures are likely intended to block attack drones and reduce the risk of damage to production facilities.
In addition, several air defense positions are being set up around “Alabuga.”
In this way, Russia is simultaneously increasing Alabuga’s production capacity and strengthening its defenses in an effort to ensure further expansion of the production of attack drones used in the war against Ukraine.
