Russia acknowledges the loss of more than 1.3 million soldiers at the front in classified reports

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that Ukrainian intelligence has gained access to classified official documents of the Russian Federation in which the aggressor estimates its irreversible losses at 1,315,000 people. This refers to those killed and seriously wounded who will no longer be able to return to combat operations.

The head of state emphasised that even these figures, in Ukraine’s view, are understated, yet they demonstrate the catastrophic situation for the Kremlin at the front.

According to a report by the head of the Main Intelligence Directorate, Oleh Ivashchenko, Russian documents record an abnormal ratio of losses: 62% are killed and 38% are wounded. This indicates the poor quality of field medicine and the refusal of the Russian command to evacuate seriously wounded soldiers. While Russia is trying to use the escalation around Iran to weaken sanctions pressure, the Main Intelligence Directorate has also updated data on the expansion of Moscow’s military cooperation with North Korea in order to compensate for the shortage of resources.

The total combat losses of Russian troops since the beginning of the full-scale invasion of Ukraine — from 24 February 2022 to 10 March 2026 — amount to approximately 1,274,990 people. Over the past day alone, Ukrainian defenders eliminated another 950 occupiers.
