Russia has lost one of the satellites in the Svitanok system, which is described as the equivalent of Starlink

The Russian aerospace company "Bureau 1440" has lost one of the first production satellites of the "Svitanok" ("Dawn") communications system, which was launched into orbit in March 2026.

Bureau 1440 confirmed the loss of the satellite to journalists. According to company representatives, six experimental spacecraft from the “Svitanok-1” and “Svitanok-2” series, as well as 15 of the 16 satellites from the first production launch, are currently in low Earth orbit.

Journalist Anatoliy Zak had also previously reported on the loss of one of the satellites.

On March 24, Bureau 1440 announced the launch of the first 16 production satellites of the Svitanok constellation into orbit. The company stated at the time that this launch marked the transition from testing to the creation of a full-fledged satellite communication service.

"Bureau 1440" is developing a low-Earth orbit satellite internet system, which is positioned in Russia as an analogue of Starlink. According to the company’s plans, by the end of 2030, the orbital constellation is expected to consist of 292 satellites, with a total of 383 spacecraft planned for launch.

The project is being implemented as part of the state program “Data Economy.” It is planned to allocate 102 billion rubles from the federal budget and an additional 329 billion rubles from the company’s funds to finance it.

On the night of June 5, attack drones struck a number of targets in the temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine. In Luhansk, a massive fire broke out at an oil depot following the attack; explosions and strikes were also reported in the Donetsk, Vuhlehirsk, and Mariupol areas.
