Russia launched 218 drones and missiles at Ukraine; there are casualties and injuries
On the night of August 31, Russia launched a massive combined attack on Ukraine, deploying 218 strike drones of various types, as well as ballistic and cruise missiles. The main targets of the attack were the Kyiv and Odesa regions.
According to the Ukrainian Air Force, Ukrainian air defense forces destroyed or neutralized 199 aerial targets.
At the same time, missile and attack UAV strikes were recorded at 28 locations, and debris from downed targets fell at 10 locations.
During the nighttime attack, Russian forces used:
- “Iskander-M”/KN-23/S-400 ballistic missiles and “Zircon” anti-ship missiles;
- “Kalibr” cruise missiles;
- X-31P anti-radar missiles;
- S8000 “Banderole” rocket munitions;
- 218 attack UAVs, including “Shahed”-type drones and “Parody” decoy drones.
As of 8:30 a.m., air defense forces had destroyed or intercepted 5 ballistic missiles, 2 “Banderol” missiles, 5 “Kalibr” missiles, and 187 drones.
The capital was struck by ballistic missiles and attack drones. The effects of the attack were observed in the Darnytskyi, Solomianskyi, and Holosiivskyi districts.
As of 4:30 a.m., three people were reported dead and five injured. Subsequently, the death toll in Kyiv rose to eight.
In the Darnytskyi district, Russian forces struck a railway depot and other railway infrastructure. Six employees of Ukrzaliznytsia were killed, and another employee sustained serious injuries and was hospitalized.

At another location, the blast wave injured two people, including a child.
In the Holosiivskyi district, a non-residential building was struck. Rescuers extinguished a fire covering an area of 40 square meters. One person was killed.
In the Solomyanskyi district, a residential building was partially destroyed after being hit by a UAV. Rescue workers pulled a woman from the rubble and rescued a man.
Russian missiles and drones also attacked the Kyiv region.
In Boryspil, a five-story residential building was damaged, and 48 people were evacuated from it. Cars caught fire in a nearby parking lot.
A business in the city was also damaged. The death toll in Boryspil has risen to four, with 13 others injured.
A store, private homes, and a car repair shop were also damaged in the city.
One person was injured in the Obukhiv district. Eleven private homes, warehouses, and a gas station were damaged.
On the night of September 1, Russian troops struck border infrastructure in the Izmail district of the Odesa region.
Due to the attack, operations at the “Orlivka” international border crossing on the border with Romania were temporarily suspended.
Russian troops also attacked the Zaporizhzhia region.
Two people were killed and three others were wounded as a result of the enemy strikes.
In Zaporizhzhia, a Russian FPV drone struck a high-rise building. Two people were injured, including a teenager.
In total, over the past 24 hours, the occupiers carried out 923 strikes on 51 settlements in the Zaporizhzhia region. There were 53 reports of damage to homes, vehicles, and infrastructure.
In the Mykolaiv region, a 54-year-old man was injured during a “Shahed” drone attack the day before. Trucks were also on fire.
Russian FPV drones attacked the Kutsurub and Halytsyniv communities twice, but no reports of casualties have been received.
In the Dnipropetrovsk region, Russian troops attacked three districts of the region more than 20 times using drones and aerial bombs.
The communities of Nikopol, Marganetsk, and Pokrovsk were hit. A supermarket, stores, apartment buildings, a private home, and a car were damaged.
A fire broke out in the Pavlohrad district, damaging a business. A 38-year-old man was injured and hospitalized in moderate condition.
One of DTEK’s mines was also hit. An employee of the mine was injured and taken to a medical facility.
In the Donetsk region, at approximately 4:20 a.m., Russian forces carried out an airstrike on a high-rise building in Sloviansk. At least four people aged 60 to 66 are known to have been injured.
The strike destroyed the entrance to an apartment building from the first to the fifth floors, as well as a private home.
In the village of Bilbasivka, part of the Sloviansk community, two people were killed, including a child. Another person was injured.
In the Kherson region, at around 6:40 a.m., Russian forces attacked a healthcare facility in Kherson. Two employees of the facility—a 62-year-old man and a 69-year-old woman—were injured. They were hospitalized.
In the Cherkasy region, air defense forces shot down three Russian UAVs. No reports of casualties or property damage have been received.
On the night of August 31, Russia attacked Ukraine with an X-59 guided air-to-ground missile and 121 strike UAVs of the “Shahed,” “Gerbera,” and “Parody” types.
Air defense forces shot down or neutralized 96 enemy drones. The X-59 missile did not reach its target.
Airstrikes were recorded at 11 locations, and debris from downed targets fell at eight of them.
In the Kyiv region, four people were injured as a result of the attack, and storage facilities, a retail establishment, an apartment building, and other structures were damaged.
In the Odesa region, a Russian strike damaged a “Nova Poshta” terminal. The building sustained partial damage, and a fire broke out, which firefighters extinguished.
Thus, on September 1, Russia carried out one of its largest-scale airstrikes on Ukraine, targeting Kyiv and the Kyiv, Odesa, Zaporizhzhia, Dnipropetrovsk, Mykolaiv, Donetsk, Kherson, and other regions. The Russian attack resulted in fatalities, dozens of casualties, and significant damage to civilian and critical infrastructure.

In the Kherson region, three people were killed and 14 others were wounded over the past day as a result of Russian aggression. A child is among the injured.
Zelenskyy reported that the Russian Federation’s nighttime attack claimed the lives of 12 people.
The Russian attack damaged the Dnipro-M distribution center in Kyiv.
