Russia is developing low-cost cruise missiles for attacks on Ukraine
Russia is developing the low-cost “Dan-T” cruise missile, which is slated for mass production. The new munition is intended to fill the gap between attack drones and expensive cruise missiles.
According to aviation expert Anatoliy Khrapchynskyi, the “Dan-T” could have a range of about 500 km and a warhead weighing 100–150 kg.
Chinese components, in particular, help reduce production costs. Specifically, this refers to jet engines, which are estimated to cost $40,000–50,000.
Moscow is counting on mass production of this new weapon. According to open-source data, the Russian Federation allegedly plans to manufacture up to 10,000 such missiles by 2027. However, this figure has not been officially confirmed.
For Ukraine, the emergence of a large number of inexpensive missiles could place an additional burden on its air defense forces. However, experts note that the primary purpose of the “Dan-T” is to strike targets, not directly to wear down Ukraine’s air defenses.
