Russia transferred Ukrainian journalist Iryna Levchenko to the Krasnodar pretrial detention center

Ukrainian journalist Iryna Levchenko, who was unlawfully detained by Russian military personnel in the temporarily occupied city of Melitopol, was transferred from Simferopol to a pretrial detention center in Krasnodar. According to her relatives, the transfer took place under difficult conditions, and the next court hearing will likely take place on Russian territory.

Ukrainian journalist Iryna Levchenko, whom Russia is illegally detaining following her arrest in the temporarily occupied city of Melitopol, was transferred from Simferopol to a pretrial detention center in Krasnodar. This was reported by the Institute of Mass Information.

According to the journalist’s sister, Olena Rudenko, Iryna was taken from occupied Crimea at night along with other detainees. They were transported in an overcrowded police van without air conditioning. “They were transported in an overcrowded police van without air conditioning,” the journalist’s sister said. Upon arrival in Krasnodar, it became clear that the local pretrial detention center had no electricity or water. Irina is currently being held in a cell with five other women.

According to her family, the next court hearing in the journalist’s case, scheduled for July, will most likely take place in Krasnodar. At the same time, Russian authorities have not yet officially disclosed the specific charges against Iryna Levchenko. According to her relatives, they are attempting to charge her with “terrorism,” but the family has not received any official documents detailing the specific charges.

As a reminder, Irina Levchenko was detained by Russian occupiers in the temporarily occupied city of Melitopol. Since then, she has been held in unlawful detention, and information about her case remains limited. Ukrainian and international human rights activists have repeatedly declared the persecution of Ukrainian civilians in the occupied territories to be unlawful and have demanded their release.

The journalist’s relatives continue to monitor her case and report every change in her place of detention. They also emphasize that Iryna needs the attention of the international community, as her rights, they say, are being systematically violated. The Institute of Mass Information reported this on Facebook.

Over the past day, the Russian army lost another 1,350 soldiers in the war against Ukraine. According to the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, since the start of the full-scale invasion, Russia’s total personnel losses have already approached 1.4 million.
