Russia launched a massive drone attack on the Sumy region and killed a woman

On the evening of August 26, Russian forces launched nine drones at the Romny community in the Sumy region; some of them were shot down by Ukrainian air defense forces. A 66-year-old woman was killed when a drone struck a residential building, and four other people sought medical attention.

According to the head of the Regional Military Administration, Ukrainian air defense destroyed some of the enemy drones, but several still reached their targets, striking civilian infrastructure in the community.

“Preliminary reports indicate that the Russians launched nine UAVs at the community. Some of the enemy drones were destroyed; however, unfortunately, there were strikes on civilian infrastructure,” said Oleg Grigorov, head of the Regional Military Administration.

The strike on one of the community’s residential buildings caused the most severe damage: a 66-year-old woman was killed by a direct hit. The head of the Regional Military Administration expressed his condolences to the family and loved ones of the victim.

Four other residents of the community sought medical attention after the attack—medical personnel are providing them with all necessary care on site. The full extent of the damage is currently being assessed.
