Russia struck Kryvyi Rih: a woman was killed, more than twenty people were injured
On 8 January, Kryvyi Rih came under a ballistic missile strike by the Russian army: a 77-year-old woman was killed, and more than twenty people were injured, including six children. The missiles hit multi-storey residential buildings and infrastructure facilities; damage and destruction are ongoing. The number of casualties continues to rise, and medics are providing assistance in real time, reported the Head of the Defence Council, Oleksandr Vilkul.
At around 05:00 p.m. on 8 January, two explosions were heard in Kryvyi Rih. According to the Head of the City Defence Council, Oleksandr Vilkul, Russian forces attacked the city with ballistic missiles. Five minutes later, repeated explosions were heard, and the Air Force detected the movement of enemy drones towards the city. “The Russian army struck two multi-apartment buildings with two Iskanders. The wounded are being given medical assistance,” Vilkul wrote.
As of 06:36 p.m., the acting head of the Regional Military Administration, Vladyslav Haivanenko, reported five injured people, including a child, and one 57-year-old man in a serious condition.
Throughout the evening, the number of injured increased with each hour. At 18:55, Vilkul noted that there were already ten injured, and at 19:00 — twelve. It was preliminarily established that the missiles were Iskander-M. “One man is in an extremely critical condition, in the operating theatre, with his leg torn off by the explosion. We are deploying a help centre for people nearby,” the official added.

By 08:00 p.m., the number of injured had increased to 17, including four children. Nine people are in hospitals, including boys aged seven and sixteen; one man is in an extremely critical condition. As of 09:08 p.m., 15 injured people remain in the city’s medical facilities: one in a serious condition, another in an extremely critical condition, while the rest of the victims are in a condition of moderate severity.
Almost one and a half dozen multi-storey buildings and about ten business facilities were damaged, as well as cars. Around ten buildings were seriously damaged, and one was virtually destroyed. “The building that was hit this time had already suffered an attack by the Russian Federation in November 2024. At that time, only parts of the entrances were inhabited,” Vilkul reported.

According to the latest information, a 77-year-old woman was killed, and 23 people were injured, including six children. Medics and rescuers continue to provide assistance, and the number of casualties may increase.
