Russia is testing a new drone that uses fiber-optic cables and is more difficult to jam with electronic countermeasures

The Russian military is testing a new winged drone that uses a fiber-optic control channel.

According to him, this technology could complicate the work of electronic warfare systems, since the drone is not controlled via radio signals. Details regarding the new UAV’s specifications have not yet been disclosed.

“The enemy is testing a new fixed-wing drone using fiber-optic technology. They have announced plans for the mass production of a ‘Molniya’-type drone with a range of 50 kilometers,” Beskrestnov noted.

He explained: “Just as with AI-powered UAVs, the main idea is to make the flights of strike drones carrying a payload of up to 10 kg invisible to our electronic intelligence and immune to our electronic warfare.”

“And high-quality imagery will allow the drone to maneuver at low altitudes, flying around obstacles. Low altitudes reduce the visibility of targets on radar,” Beskrestnov added.

Serhiy “Flash” Beskrestnov, an advisor to the Minister of Defense, reported this on Facebook.
