The Russians are losing ground in the Kupiansk region and lack the resources for a new offensive
Russian troops continue to launch attacks in the Lyman, Sloviansk, and Kupiansk sectors; however, the total number of occupiers directly in the combat zone is currently decreasing.
The situation remains most tense in the Lyman and Sloviansk sectors. At the same time, the intensity of combat operations has decreased in the Ukrainian part of the Sumy region and in the South Slobozhanshchyna sector.
In the Kupiansk area, Russian forces are attempting to advance along the left bank of the Oskol River, particularly toward Kivsharivka. Their goal is to narrow the Ukrainian bridgehead and create conditions for a further offensive.
At the same time, the situation for Russian troops is deteriorating in the Kupiansk area itself. According to Viktor Tregubov, spokesperson for the Joint Forces Operation, the occupiers are gradually abandoning previously captured positions and are having trouble holding them.
“There, on the contrary, they are slowly retreating and are having major problems even just holding on to what they had previously occupied,” Tregubov noted.
In the Lyman sector, despite active pressure, Russian troops also have no prospects of achieving their stated objectives. At the same time, according to the spokesperson’s assessment, Russia does not have sufficient resources to significantly intensify its offensive in the coming weeks.
The situation could change if a new large-scale mobilization takes place or if significant forces are redeployed to the front from central regions or from trained reserves.
