A Russian missile strike on Kyiv and the surrounding region claimed at least eight lives
At least eight people were killed and at least 33 others were injured as a result of a nighttime missile attack by Russia, the aggressor state, on Kyiv and the Kyiv region. BBC News reports this, citing Ukrainian authorities.
According to Ukraine’s State Emergency Service, residential buildings and warehouses were hit during the massive attack. A children’s hospital and an educational institution were also damaged. Rescue workers are clearing the rubble of destroyed buildings and searching for people who may be trapped beneath the debris. Two people have already been pulled alive from the rubble.
Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko reported that the strike on the children’s hospital shattered windows, and cars caught fire nearby. According to him, missiles also struck an industrial center in the Solomyanskyi district of the capital.

In the Brovary district of the Kyiv region, one man was killed and another was injured as a result of the attack. This was stated by Timur Tkachenko, head of the Kyiv region. Throughout the night, regional authorities issued air raid alerts following warnings from the Air Force about missiles heading toward Kyiv.
The strikes caused power outages affecting thousands of facilities in the Kyiv region. Emergency crews are repairing the damaged power lines. The Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation, the aggressor state, claimed to have allegedly attacked a facility producing drone components and an ammunition depot in Kyiv. The BBC has been unable to independently verify these claims.
Romania also reported that a drone entered its airspace near its northern border with Ukraine. According to the Romanian Ministry of Defense, the drone crashed in an uninhabited area about 13 kilometers east of the city of Galați, causing a small fire. No injuries or property damage were reported there. The Polish military reported that it had launched defensive air operations to protect its airspace.
