A Russian drone crashed in Romania near the border with Ukraine
On Wednesday night, a drone entered Romanian airspace near the border with Ukraine and subsequently crashed in an uninhabited area of Tulcea County.
According to the agency, at 2:23 a.m., radar surveillance systems detected a group of aerial targets near the Romanian-Ukrainian border.
After the targets were detected, the National Military Command Center notified the General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations of the need to alert the public. An RO-Alert notification was sent to residents of the affected area at 3:20 a.m.
The Romanian Ministry of Defense noted that at 03:21, a drone entered the country’s airspace approximately 13 km east of the municipality of Galați.
By 03:24, the crew of a Romanian IAR-330 SOCAT helicopter reported that the aerial target had crashed approximately 4 km northeast of the village of Grindu in Tulcea County.
The drone crashed in an uninhabited area. A fire broke out upon impact, but it subsequently extinguished itself.
“A group of military personnel is heading to the crash site to secure the area,” the Romanian Ministry of Defense reported.
Two F-18 fighter jets from the Spanish Air and Space Force were scrambled to monitor the situation and control the airspace.
In addition, a Romanian IAR-330 SOCAT helicopter was dispatched to conduct aerial reconnaissance and monitor the area where the drone crashed.
Currently, the Romanian military is investigating the circumstances of the incident and securing the crash site.

Meanwhile, the Polish military detected no violations of the country’s airspace during the Russian attack on Ukraine on the night of August 19–20. According to Polish officials, strategic aircraft took off during the Russian strike.
Over the course of August 19, Russian troops carried out 970 strikes on 57 settlements in the Zaporizhzhia region. Six people were injured as a result of the enemy attacks.
