Russian mobile fire teams deployed in the regions to combat Ukrainian drones are required to record their operations against aerial targets on video. The footage is used for reporting to command and to justify ammunition expenditures.
A soldier from the “Dnipro” unit of the “BARS-Sarmat” Special Purpose Center, with the call sign “Ikona,” who is serving in the Tula region, told Kommersant about this. According to him, the mobile team—which operates from a pickup truck equipped with a machine gun—consists of a driver, a gunner, and a commander.
While the group is in action, the driver not only drives the vehicle but also films the destruction of aerial targets on his phone. As the soldier explained, the video is not intended for social media but for reports to higher-ups, since the use of ammunition and interceptors must be documented.
Russian authorities began mass-producing mobile fire teams to protect rear-area facilities from drones in late 2025 through the first half of 2026. Subsequently, major Russian companies also began forming their own such units.
