Russian troops have been ordered to intensify drone strikes on Ukraine's civilian infrastructure — Main Intelligence Directorate

The Russian military command has ordered its units to intensify drone strikes on civilian infrastructure and vehicles in frontline areas and along Ukraine’s border.

According to Ukrainian intelligence, the occupiers are expected to target gas stations, trucks, buses, and passenger cars. The “Rubicon” Center for Advanced Unmanned Systems and external pilots from the Russian Army’s line units have been deployed to carry out these missions.

To locate and engage targets, according to the Main Intelligence Directorate (GUR), the Russians plan to use drones controlled in real time, including the “Molniya-1,” “Molniya-2,” “Geran-Siker,” “Gerbera-Siker,” “Lancet,” V2U, and other unmanned systems.

The intelligence report noted that the low level of operator training is already leading to incidents of friendly fire. Specifically, in the Kursk region of the Russian Federation, operators from the 1,427th Motorized Rifle Regiment mistakenly targeted a “Molniya-2” drone at a civilian UAZ “Bukhanka” vehicle, but the drone exploded about 10 meters away from the vehicle.

Another instance of so-called “friendly fire” occurred in the Zaporizhzhia sector, where Russian drone operators mistakenly struck a pickup truck carrying their own soldiers.

The Main Intelligence Directorate also emphasized that isolated attacks on the civilian population in Russia’s border regions may be staged by Russian special services for use in propaganda campaigns against Ukraine.

Ukrainian intelligence urged citizens not to ignore air raid alerts, stressing that the order to intensify drone attacks poses a real threat to the civilian population.

This was reported on July 17 by the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine.

As a reminder, on the morning of July 15, Russian troops struck a gas station in the Malyn community of Zhytomyr Oblast. One person was injured as a result of the attack.

Russian troops continue to exert intense pressure in the Lyman and Kupiansk sectors and are seeking to establish a continuous zone of control along the state border with Russia.
