The SBU detained a taxi driver from Kramatorsk who was coordinating Russian strikes

On July 28, the Counterintelligence Directorate of the Security Service of Ukraine exposed and detained a Russian military intelligence agent in the Donetsk region. The agent turned out to be a taxi driver from Kramatorsk who was passing information to the enemy to help target the city and surrounding areas. According to the SBU, the man was recruited by representatives of Russia’s GRU.

The investigation revealed that the Russians used their accomplice to direct strikes against backup command posts, logistics depots, and combat positions of the Ukrainian Defense Forces.

To carry out the enemy’s mission, the suspect traveled around the frontline area under the guise of business trips and marked the locations and routes of Ukrainian troops on Google Maps.

The suspect transmitted the collected information via a messaging app to a relative—a “liaison” for a Russian group who resides in the Russian Federation and collaborates with the aggressor country’s intelligence service.

SBU officers gradually documented the spotter’s intelligence activities, secured the locations of the Defense Forces, and detained the agent at his place of residence. During searches, an F-1 combat grenade was seized from him, as well as a smartphone containing evidence of his work for the enemy.

Currently, Security Service investigators have notified the detainee of the charges against him. The suspect is in custody. He faces up to 8 years in prison. The issue of additional charges for his crimes is being determined.

The comprehensive operation was carried out by officers of the SBU’s Main Directorate in the Donetsk and Luhansk regions under the procedural guidance of the Donetsk Regional Prosecutor’s Office.
