‘Shaheds’ begin dropping magnetic mines in snow during attacks on Ukraine
On the Kovel–Kyiv railway line, Ukrainian forces have detected a new threat following attacks by Russian kamikaze drones. Some of the drones appear capable of dropping magnetic mines directly onto the ground, according to a military source with the callsign “Flash.”
He reported that about half of the Shahed drones striking this railway section in recent days carry magnetic mines. The explosives are deployed into the snow near critical infrastructure. The mines are equipped with a self-destruction mechanism after several days, meaning additional explosions from devices dropped on 12 January may occur soon.
For the first time, Ukraine has recorded a Shahed strike drone equipped with a portable surface-to-air missile system, indicating a new and dangerous tactic by Russian forces.
Meanwhile, Russian Shahed-131/136 drones launched a mass attack on critical infrastructure in Mykolaiv Oblast, leaving several settlements without electricity.
