Mortar shells struck Kharkiv; a fire broke out following the explosions

Kharkiv has once again come under attack by Russian "Shahed"-type drones; a fire broke out in the Novobavarskyi district following a strike, and the city has been hit again. Information about casualties is being verified, but it is known that there were already fatalities and injuries in the region prior to the shelling. This is stated in a Telegram message from Mayor Igor Terekhov.

On May 19 in Kharkiv, Russian drones struck residential areas again, and after one of the strikes in the Novobavarsky district, a fire broke out, which quickly spread due to the blast wave and debris scattered across the area, leaving behind destroyed structures and panic among local residents.

Mayor Ihor Terekhov confirmed that one of the “Shaheds” struck the city directly, causing a fire at the site, and that another strike was later recorded, which only worsened the situation and complicated the work of rescue services that arrived at the scene. “An enemy ‘Shahed’ struck the Novobavarskyi district—a fire broke out at the site. Information on casualties is being verified,” Terekhov reported, adding later that the enemy launched a second strike on the same area, indicating a deliberate targeting of civilian infrastructure.

According to official data, over the past 24 hours, Russian troops attacked not only Kharkiv but also 13 other settlements in the region, where two people were killed and 12 others were wounded—including a child—as a result of the shelling. Significant damage to residential buildings, vehicles, businesses, and critical infrastructure has also been reported.

The situation remains tense in various communities across the region, as strikes are targeting both cities and villages, where civilians—including women and children—are suffering, while rescue workers continue to address the aftermath of the shelling and clear the rubble of destroyed structures.

As a reminder, Russia attacked a substation in the Kramatorsk district with an FPV drone.

In the Zolochiv community of the Kharkiv region, a Russian drone attacked the Hryhorii Skovoroda National Literary and Memorial Museum.
