Sikorsky announced a record-breaking military aid package for Ukraine
Poland is preparing the largest and most comprehensive aid package for Ukraine amid intensifying Russian attacks. Polish Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski stated that Warsaw has no intention of yielding to pressure from Moscow and plans to continue supporting Kyiv.
Poland is preparing a new, large aid package for Ukraine. Polish Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski announced this on September 17 during a broadcast on Polish radio. According to him, Warsaw has no intention of withdrawing its support for Ukraine due to Russian threats and attacks. On the contrary, Poland believes that the intensification of Russian strikes should be a reason to provide even greater support to Kyiv.
“We are preparing the largest and most comprehensive aid package for Ukraine. We will not allow ourselves to be intimidated. The more Russia bombs Ukraine, the greater the solidarity we must show toward Ukraine and the Ukrainian people,” Sikorski said. However, the Polish government has not yet disclosed exactly what the new package will include or what its total cost will be. Therefore, it is too early to discuss specific types of weapons or the quantity of military equipment Ukraine will receive.
Poland Prepares for a New Escalation
Sikorski’s statement came amid Warsaw’s concerns about a further intensification of Russian activity near the Polish border. The Polish foreign minister stated that Russia’s hybrid war is already entering a more dangerous phase. According to him, armed drones and missiles are already entering Polish airspace, and similar incidents have been recorded over Lithuania as well. “Unfortunately, we expect further escalation of this hybrid war, which has already taken on a kinetic character,” Sikorski said. He added that, because of this, Poland must strengthen its preparedness for possible new threats.
He noted that Russian attacks are taking place so close to the Polish border that their effects can be felt on Polish territory. Because of this, Warsaw is already strengthening the defense of its border regions. In particular, the Polish military has reinforced the area around the border crossing in Dorohusk. There, they have installed a system to protect against ballistic threats and special portable fortifications for border guards.
Sikorski Speaks About Russian Sabotage
Separately, the Polish minister drew attention to other actions that Warsaw links to Russian activity in Europe. Among them, he cited attempts to launch drones toward international airports, sabotage, arson, and attempts to plant explosives at various sites. The Polish authorities also report instances where, in their assessment, Russia is deploying sabotage groups.
Sikorski believes that Moscow is attempting in this way to put pressure on European countries and force them to reduce their support for Ukraine. The Polish minister had previously stated that Russia wants to intimidate Poland into stopping its aid to Ukraine. At the same time, he asserted that Russia’s actions are having the opposite effect and are only strengthening Poland’s resolve to spend money on defense.
Poland Continues to Support Ukraine
For Warsaw, support for Ukraine remains an important part of its security policy. Poland is one of the key routes for military aid flowing to Ukraine from its Western partners. During his visit to Kyiv in September, Sikorski also emphasized the need to continue supporting Ukraine. He arrived in the Ukrainian capital amid Russian attacks and stated that the more intensely Russia bombs Ukraine, the more important it is to demonstrate solidarity.
Polish Radio reported that as of July 2026, the total value of military equipment transferred by Poland to Ukraine amounted to approximately 16.45 billion zlotys. Most of this aid was provided during the early years of the full-scale war. Warsaw is now preparing a new package, the specific contents of which will be announced later.
Sikorski called on Europe to strengthen its defense
The Polish minister also stated that the European Union needs to ramp up weapons production more quickly in light of the Russian threat. According to him, EU countries must strengthen their own defense capabilities and be prepared for further escalation. Sikorski also emphasized the significant economic and military advantage that the EU and NATO hold over Russia. He said the allies have sufficient resources to withstand pressure from Moscow.
Thus, Warsaw views the new aid package for Ukraine not only as support for Kyiv in the war but also as part of its own security policy. At the same time, Polish authorities are strengthening the protection of their border and preparing for possible new Russian provocations. This was reported by Polskie Radio.
In Poland, up to 200,000 people may be called up for reservist military training in 2027. The corresponding maximum conscription quotas are stipulated in a draft resolution of the country’s Council of Ministers.
