Yaroslavl Oil Refinery Shut Down After Drone Attack – Reuters
On Thursday, September 17, the Russian oil refinery “Slavneft Yaroslavnaftorgsintez” (YANOS) suspended crude oil processing following an attack by Ukrainian drones. The strike damaged the AVT-3 primary refining unit, with a capacity of 17,140 metric tons per day, which accounted for about 40% of the plant’s total capacity.
Another primary refining unit, AVT-4, with a capacity of 14,300 metric tons per day (33% of total capacity), was already undergoing repairs after sustaining damage during a previous drone attack on August 28. Due to the shutdown of these facilities, fuel produced by the Yaroslavl Oil Refinery was not offered for sale on the Russian domestic commodity exchange on Thursday.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that on the night of September 17, during a joint operation by the SBU, the Unmanned Systems Forces, the Main Intelligence Directorate, and the Foreign Intelligence Service of Ukraine, the Yaroslavl Oil Refinery was struck, as were Russian aircraft at a military airfield in Rostov. According to the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the destruction of one An-12 aircraft, two An-26 aircraft, and three helicopters has been confirmed.
Units of the Ukrainian Armed Forces’ Unmanned Systems Forces struck or destroyed 2,034 enemy targets over the course of the day. Among the equipment and personnel struck were more than 550 occupiers and 16 artillery systems.
