The Defence Forces are holding part of Pokrovsk and Myrnohrad
Ukrainian troops continue to maintain control over part of the strategically important cities of Pokrovsk and Myrnohrad in the Donetsk region. Despite the intensification of the Russian army’s spring–summer offensive, the occupiers have failed to fully capture these territories, creating serious obstacles to their further plans.
The spokesperson for the “East” group of forces, Hryhorii Shapoval, said in a comment to RBC-Ukraine that the highest intensity of combat is currently observed in the areas of Pokrovsk and Kostiantynivka. The resilience of the defence in this sector of the front is of critical importance for the entire eastern direction.
“The enemy will not be able to carry out any large-scale attacks in other directions as long as Pokrovsk and Myrnohrad stand,” Shapoval emphasised. According to him, the heroic efforts of the 7th Air Assault Corps not only allow positions to be held but also help maintain stable logistics within the cities.
The situation in the agglomeration itself remains extremely difficult. A significant part of the territory is currently in the so-called “grey zone”, where constant fighting is taking place, but the enemy does not have the capability for a rapid breakthrough.
“Part of these cities is still under our control. A large portion of the territory in this agglomeration is in the grey zone, but the enemy is currently bogged down there,” the spokesperson added.
Alongside the fighting for Pokrovsk, Russian forces are attempting to advance on the Lyman axis. This is part of the Kremlin’s broader plan to break through Ukraine’s “fortress belt” and reach Sloviansk and Kramatorsk, which remain the aggressor’s primary objectives.
It is worth noting that Russia has lost another 1,060 troops and three multiple launch rocket systems in the war against Ukraine.
Additionally, there is growing panic in Russia over problems at the front, and the Kremlin is intensifying repression.
