Syrsky held a meeting in Odessa on Black Sea defense and the development of maritime drones

Syrsky held a meeting in Odessa on Black Sea defense and the development of maritime drones

During a visit to Odesa on May 30, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Oleksandr Syrskyi discussed the situation in the Black Sea operational zone and further measures to strengthen maritime security with the Navy command.

This was reported on Syrskyi’s Facebook page:

The Black Sea operational zone is one of the components of the theater of operations where the Ukrainian Armed Forces dictate their terms to the Russian invaders, thwart the enemy’s aggressive plans, and carry out their own active operations. The presence of the Russian Navy in the Black and Azov Seas has been virtually neutralized.

During a working trip to Odesa, I met with the leadership and officers of the Naval Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. It is our Navy that is today a key element in ensuring defense capability and security in the Black Sea region. The focus is on protecting the southern borders and enhancing the ability to operate effectively at sea.

I heard reports from the Commander of the Ukrainian Navy, Vice Admiral Oleksiy Neizhpapa, and other officials regarding the situation in the Black Sea operational zone and the strengthening of security along sea routes and in ports.

Together with the Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Lieutenant General Andriy Hnatov, he visited units of the Navy’s strike forces—the “Neptune” coastal anti-ship missile systems—as well as units responsible for the defense of ports and maritime communications — the fleet of ships and boats, as well as air defense and anti-boat defense units.

He held a meeting on-site regarding Ukraine’s maritime defense. He reviewed the results and next steps for the development of surface forces, unmanned maritime systems, and unmanned aerial systems.

The role of unmanned and unmanned systems is becoming decisive in all domains, including at sea. Therefore, our task is to scale up production, rapidly implement new solutions, and act proactively.

We will strengthen the combat capabilities of our fleet of ships and boats to counter enemy maritime and aerial drones.

Another important area is the creation of an Integrated Maritime Situational Awareness System that combines all sensors of Ukrainian ministries and agencies operating at sea. Certain solutions are already being implemented at the tactical, operational, and strategic levels.

Based on the results of the joint activities, I issued the necessary orders for further action.

I thank every naval officer who is bringing our victory closer and keeping the sea under the Ukrainian flag.

Glory to Ukraine!
