A community leader in the Kherson region was sentenced to 15 years for working for the FSB
A court sentenced the head of one of the villages in the Novokakhovka community in the Kherson region to 15 years in prison with confiscation of property. The man was found guilty of treason.
According to the investigation, the village head collaborated with Russia’s FSB, gathered information on the locations of the Ukrainian Defense Forces, and passed it on to Russian intelligence agencies to help them target Ukrainian military units. He also recruited his mother to collaborate with the enemy.
The SBU exposed the man in November 2025. As the investigation established, he began collaborating with the Russians as early as the occupation of part of the Kherson region in 2022. At that time, the village head compiled lists of community residents for the occupiers to use during the pseudo-referendum.
The man also received a Russian passport from the occupation administration, which he planned to use to travel to Russia. After the liberation of the right-bank part of the Kherson region, he did not manage to flee and remained in his village.
Later, the man began posting anti-Ukrainian comments on Telegram channels. According to the SBU, this brought him to the attention of Russian intelligence services, and he was recruited by the FSB.
After being recruited, the village head gathered intelligence for the Russians on the temporary bases of Ukrainian troops, which the occupiers planned to target with rocket artillery and guided aerial bombs. He obtained the necessary information, in particular, during conversations with fellow villagers, and also monitored the movements of Defense Forces convoys.
The man also enlisted his mother’s help in gathering intelligence. According to the investigation, she helped him track the locations of Ukrainian troops. The agent was subsequently scheduled to travel to the Mykolaiv region to coordinate Russian strikes there. However, SBU counterintelligence officers detained him while he was preparing for the trip.
During a search, law enforcement officers found a smartphone containing evidence of collaboration with the FSB and a Russian passport. The court found the man guilty of treason committed under martial law and sentenced him to 15 years in prison with confiscation of property. Investigations are ongoing regarding the convict’s mother, who is suspected of involvement in collaborating with the Russians.
