Stubb urged the U.S. president to keep the focus on the war in Ukraine — Politico

Finnish President Alexander Stubb expressed hope that U.S. President Donald Trump would keep his promises regarding ending the war in Ukraine.

Despite Washington’s current focus on the conflict in the Middle East, the Finnish leader emphasizes the critical importance of the Ukrainian issue for European security.

In an interview with Politico, Alexander Stubb acknowledged that the American leader’s attention has shifted significantly.

In particular, the escalating situation surrounding Iran has become the top priority for the administration in Washington.

“Right now, he is completely absorbed by Iran. For obvious reasons, the war in Iran is diverting attention from what is happening in Ukraine. It seems to me that peace talks are currently on hold,” Alexander Stubb noted in a conversation with journalists.

The Finnish president emphasized the clear difference between the priorities of the U.S. and its European allies in the context of global conflicts.

He noted that Europe must remain focused on defending its own borders and supporting Kyiv.

When asked about possible assistance to the Americans in the Persian Gulf region, Stubb spoke quite bluntly. He believes that European efforts should be concentrated specifically on Ukraine.

“This may sound a bit harsh, but Iran is not my war. Ukraine is my war,” emphasized the President of Finland, outlining the defense strategy of his country and the region.

According to Alexander Stubb, European countries should not intervene in the conflict with Iran while active hostilities continue on the continent.

The issue of shipping security in the Strait of Hormuz can only be discussed in the distant future.

As a reminder, Stubb has downgraded his forecast for a swift return to peace in Ukraine.

The Finnish president also impressed the internet with his library.
