The 66th Mechanized Brigade reports some of the lowest rates of combat readiness in the Armed Forces of Ukraine

The 66th Mechanized Brigade reports some of the lowest rates of combat readiness in the Armed Forces of Ukraine

Thanks to improved training, the 66th Separate Mechanized Brigade named after Prince M. the Brave has achieved one of the lowest casualty rates among all units of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

Radical changes took place following the unit’s integration into the Third Army Corps.

The unit’s command succeeded in significantly changing approaches to interacting with service members and improving their psychological well-being. This allowed them to resolve one of the most complex challenges facing the modern army and position the brigade as a leader in terms of discipline.

“As for desertion, as of now, our brigade holds the leading position in the Armed Forces of Ukraine with the lowest rate of desertion. How did we achieve this? First and foremost, it is training and clear task assignments. The soldiers have a clear understanding, and they prepare for this both mentally and physically. Next comes post-deployment adaptation. And every soldier in our unit maintains direct contact with the battalion commander,” said Yegor Shcherbina.

The servicemen have also achieved significant successes in the use of unmanned technologies, which has allowed them to effectively destroy the occupiers’ equipment and manpower.

According to Shcherbina, the brigade has entered the top 30 most effective units in this area.

“And at the moment, we have good results at the tactical and operational levels—in some cases, the unmanned component can currently maintain continuous control of the unmanned component up to 5 kilometers and control of the enemy up to 10 kilometers,” he noted.

The head of the UAV Service also reported that at the tactical-operational level, there are already results regarding the flight range of their systems, specifically—reaching Kreminna, which will enable them to control logistics there in the future.

Improvements in the technical capabilities of unmanned aerial vehicles open up new prospects for deterring enemy forces in complex sections of the front.

Structural changes, borrowed from advanced Western military management practices, also played a significant role in the unit’s transformation.

Shcherbina emphasized that the position of battle captain, introduced in the Third Army Corps, “has brought about a radical reform in combat management at all levels.”

“Currently, decisions are first made horizontally; they are already being implemented, and then the higher command is informed in parallel about how this will be carried out. And the brigade command itself, along with the brigade battle captain, no longer makes decisions for the battalions but provides support for our forces at their own level,” explained the Chief of the General Staff.
