According to Tolstoy, Russia needs the “special military operation” to preserve the state “in the form in which it currently exists.” He described the war against Ukraine as a “struggle for independence, freedom, and the right to make decisions independently.”
The Russian lawmaker also attempted to portray the full-scale invasion as a supposedly necessary step. He claimed that the Kremlin was allegedly left with no choice but to fight “with arms in hand.”
In addition, Tolstoy called on Russians to “see it through to the end,” regardless of the cost of continuing the war, thereby making it clear that Moscow has no intention of ceasing hostilities.
