Europe will try to persuade Trump to support negotiations with Russia — Bloomberg

European leaders intend to use their scheduled meetings with U.S. President Donald Trump during the upcoming G7 summit to persuade him to support a renewed format for peace talks between Ukraine and Russia.

The main goal of foreign diplomats is to establish a unified Western position to increase pressure on the Kremlin.

According to confidential sources of the media outlet, the leadership of the United Kingdom, France, and Germany believes that the overall situation on the battlefield has recently shifted in Ukraine’s favor.

European diplomats are convinced that this factor creates real opportunities for launching a negotiation process.

New diplomatic efforts must go well beyond the limited approaches that took shape immediately after Donald Trump’s meeting with Russian dictator Vladimir Putin in Alaska last year.

The leaders of the so-called E3 group are currently calling for an immediate ceasefire in the combat zone.

They are officially proposing to launch a negotiation process based on the current front line, as well as to provide Ukraine with the most reliable and long-term security guarantees.

Among the key defense measures being considered is even the potential deployment of an international multinational military contingent on Ukrainian territory.

These strategic proposals from European capitals were officially recorded and outlined in a joint statement with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy following the conclusion of important trilateral talks in London.

Currently, the countries of the “European Trio” see this as a real opportunity to restore Europe’s more significant and active role in the global negotiation process.

This renewed engagement comes as previous negotiations under the direct leadership of the U.S. have reached an impasse, and Washington is increasingly focused on its confrontation with Iran.

This is reported by the authoritative international agency Bloomberg, citing its own informed sources in diplomatic circles.

Earlier, Iran launched a missile strike on the Ali Al-Salem Air Base in Kuwait, where U.S. military personnel and contractors were stationed. The attack resulted in minor injuries among the people present, as well as damage to American drones. The incident occurred amid U.S. attempts to negotiate an extension of the ceasefire with Tehran.

U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio stated that Iran’s Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei is alive and continues to interact with those around him, though he does so cautiously and primarily through written messages and intermediaries. Officials in Washington note that his activity has been increasing recently.
