Strict restrictions on gasoline sales have been imposed in the Russian Federation's main oil-producing region

Strict restrictions on gasoline sales have been imposed in the Russian Federation's main oil-producing region

In the Khanty-Mansi Autonomous Okrug, where about 40% of all Russian oil is produced, a severe fuel shortage has been reported, and limits have been imposed on fuel sales at gas stations.

This crisis situation arose as a result of a series of successful strikes by Ukrainian drones on the aggressor country’s oil refining infrastructure.

Specifically, starting on the night of June 23, Gazpromneft’s gas stations imposed a limit of no more than 40 liters of gasoline and 80 liters of diesel fuel per customer. An additional condition is that fuel may only be dispensed directly into the vehicle’s tank and only upon full prepayment. Similar safety measures and restrictions were implemented in the city of Strezhevoy in the neighboring Tomsk Oblast, where Mayor Valery Denichenko explained the decision as an attempt to protect the local market from the mass export of fuel in barrels to other regions facing shortages. Drivers are also reporting severe restrictions at gas stations in Tyumen, considered the main oil and gas capital of the Russian Federation, while local oil producers complain about being forced to shut down wells due to a surplus of crude oil amid a complete lack of finished motor gasoline.
