Explosions were heard in Yaroslavl following an attack on an oil refinery

On the night of August 5–6, the Yaroslavl Region of the Russian Federation came under attack by drones. Amid Russian air defense operations, authorities temporarily blocked the exit from Yaroslavl toward Moscow. At the same time, reports emerged online about a possible strike on the Yaroslavl oil refinery.

This was reported by Mikhail Yevraev, governor of the Yaroslavl region.

According to the official, the region has been under attack by drones since 2:37 a.m. For safety reasons, traffic has been restricted on the road leading out of the city toward Moscow—from the intersection of Moskovsky Prospekt and the Southwestern Ring Road. The governor did not provide any other official details regarding the consequences of the attack.

Meanwhile, local residents posted videos on social media showing explosions, the sounds of Russian air defense systems in action, and flashes in the sky above the city. According to information from the independent Telegram channels Astra and Exilenova+, one of the targets of the attack may have been the Yaroslavl oil refinery “Slavneft-YANOS,” which is one of the largest refineries in Russia. These reports were accompanied by videos showing smoke in the industrial zone.

Exilenova+ also reported that after the air defense systems were activated in Yaroslavl, several residential buildings allegedly caught fire due to falling debris. However, as of the time of publication, there has been no confirmation of this information from Russian authorities or emergency services.
