Kharkiv underground stops after Russian attack
Train services on all lines of the Kharkiv underground have been temporarily suspended for technical reasons following a series of explosions in the city and its suburbs on the morning of 24 December.
The press service of the municipal enterprise Kharkiv underground reported that the time for resuming operations will be announced later, while stations continue to operate as shelters.
The head of the Kharkiv Regional Military Administration, Oleh Syniehubov, officially confirmed the enemy strikes, noting that relevant services are currently assessing the aftermath of the attack. Prior to the incident, the Ukrainian Air Force had warned of fast-moving targets launched from Russian territory toward Kharkiv. Although technical issues were officially cited as the reason for the underground shutdown, it occurred immediately after the strikes, which usually cause voltage fluctuations in the city’s power grid.
The situation is under control of emergency services and energy workers, who are working to stabilize the transport network. Residents are advised to use surface transport and remain in safe locations due to the threat of further Russian attacks.
